The Mark Twain Pilots was a junior drum corps based in Elmira Heights, New York. They acted as a feeder corps to the Mark Twain Cadets. [1]
History[]
- The Mark Twain Pilots was formed in the late 1960s in Elmira Heights, New York, and was sponsored by American Legion Post 154, Elmira Heights, New York.
- The Pilots were originally known as the Mark Twain Mini-Cadets; however, in 1973, the corps management changed the name to the Pilots to remove what many considered to be a demeaning name and to give the corps a more independent identity while honoring one of Samuel Clemens' (Mark Twain) more famous occupations, that of a Mississippi riverboat pilot.
- Corps colors were navy blue and orange with white trim.
