The Rochester Crusaders are an all-age drum and bugle corps based in Rochester, New York. They have been in existence for over 50 years, and are one of the most respected corps in the activity. The 2005 season is their 58th consecutive year of marching and musical excellence.
History[]
The Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps is a 57 year old, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We were founded in 1947 by the Hilton Fire Department. Through a desire to provide a musical unit for their men to march behind, and at the same time realizing the problems of keeping young people occupied, the Hilton Fire Department organized the "Hilton Fire Department Drum and Bugle Corps". In 1964 a merger took place between the Rochester Grey Knights and the Crusaders to became the Grey Knights Post Crusaders. In 1966, the Crusaders were inserted into the Congressional record. Later that fall, the corps received an Outstanding Sportsmanship award from Congress, the first ever given to a drum and bugle corps. In 1979 the members became the owner of the Corps calling themselves once again the Crusaders. In 2004 the corps went inactive but was still able to put together a mini-corps to perform at the DCA Championships in Scranton, PA. In 2005, the corps regrouped and came back as an Open Class corps and renamed itself "The Crusaders" to reflect it's impact in the western region of New York.
